What have we been up to September & October

The end of September saw us basking in mists and mellow fruitfulness. A stunning end to the summer, or maybe the summer that we didn’t have. At SGH we  made the most of it, with visits to The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, to The Dales and of course, home to the Howardian Hills. No photos as completely forgot to take camera and missed lots of photo opportunities, maddingley. Possibly for the best, as The Small Ones only really enjoyed sliding off the edge of the Henry Moore Large 2 Forms (1966-9), which is possibly not what you’re supposed to do, and certainly don’t need photographic evidence of. I wonder if Henry ever saw the potential sliding enjoyment to be had when he was toiling away on his sculpture?

At SGH it has been a bit manic. Two of our summer projects have been continuing, with decorators on one job, and joiners on the other. This is the bit where having an interior designer comes in to its own. It would be lovely if it was all about cushions and pom pom trims, but the hard reality is that ID is really about problem solving. Whether that problem been how to use the space available to it’s best possible advantage, with form v. function (The Tall One dispairs at how often in our own home form wins out), scheduling electricains/joiners/plumbers/decorators (and rescheduling, and rescheduling again), or as is sometimes the case, sorting it out when something goes wrong. Having a middle man can make the process more expensive, but it can also make it a lot less stressful, knowing there is someone in your corner dealing with it when things don’t go right. Heading off problems before they arise, and more importantly getting them sorted out in the most diplomatic manner when they don’t.

As part of one of the summer projects, we had this stunning Roger Oates stair runner fitted by the talented SDS, off-set with Jim Lawrence stair rods, and Little Greene painted treads & risers.

And we received these photos from our lovely client Ms. C, whose whole-of-house project is very close to completion – these made us very happy.

Happy Friday!
